Research & Editorial Policy
Effective October 25, 2026. Build It Out aims to answer a specific homeowner question clearly, explain the evidence and make uncertainty visible.
Research before drafting
Each substantive article requires at least ten independently authored, relevant resources actually inspected. Multiple pages repeating the same underlying report do not create independent evidence. We prioritize original manufacturer documentation, public technical guidance and other primary material. We seek at least three primary sources and a substantive specialist resource.
Search snippets and homeowner discussions can reveal questions worth investigating. They do not establish technical facts, prices or safety requirements. Each article retains a source-to-claim record; important claims link to supporting material in the article.
An original contribution
Every article must add a useful analysis, reproducible calculation, comparison, decision aid or worksheet. Information found in a book or video remains attributed source material. We do not claim that our synthesis is an exclusive discovery or a field-tested diagnostic method.
Accurate visual explanations
Each article has custom artwork that helps explain the subject. Illustrations are identified as conceptual and do not stand in for real project photography, tests or installation evidence. Exact quantities and formulas receive arithmetic checks.
Prices, local rules and professional review
Published prices must identify their date, location, scope, inclusions and limits. An illustrative example is labeled accordingly. We do not invent contractor reviews, quotes or regional multipliers. Hazardous procedural advice requires appropriate documented expert review; AI review does not meet that requirement.
Authorship and AI assistance
Build It Out is responsible for its organizationally authored guides. AI assists research, writing, illustration and website production. Source inspection and editorial checks support publication. We name professional reviewers or describe hands-on tests only when they actually exist.
Corrections and updates
Send a URL, the disputed statement and supporting evidence through our contact page. Material corrections will be explained on the affected article. A changed date reflects an actual content review or material update, not an automatic freshness claim.
Stable guides are assigned a review within 180 days. Volatile prices, local requirements and contractor records require review within 90 days, sooner when evidence changes. These are editorial review targets.
Commercial independence
Sponsored placements and affiliate relationships must be clearly disclosed when used. Payment does not determine factual conclusions. Advertising must remain distinguishable from editorial content and useful controls.
